Life in My Words
By: Monique K. Rose
Freedom is a belief.
It is not an object that you obtain,
a concept that you learn, a dimension
of life that you enter, or a human right
that can be taken away.
Let's take this moment to understand
Freedom as a mindset.
Let's take a moment to make a choice that frees you instantly: let go of negative thoughts. Simply accept where you are and who you are now.
A free mind is a free life to everyone that sees.
Imagine that moments of fear, anxiety,
and depression are moments when
your heart cries out from your mind to be set free!
Imagine that all along it's been you against you,
refusing to change the perception
that changes your reality.
We ought ‘a start accepting that sense of Freedom.
We better start realizing that Freedom isn’t
relying on an experience, predicament, or a system
to become better for you to be better.
Let's not become stagnant but present in order to master Freedom’s dominant trait: adaptability.
The ability to adapt is inherent.
You are mendable physically, mentally, and spiritually.
History books may have conditioned us to believe that freedom is a tangible
thing that is given or taken.
In moments of despair, we falsely believe we are not in control.
Teaching at a juvenile facility,
taught me that to choose freedom, one must
leave mental captivity because freedom resides in
your spirit despite where you are physically.
There were times I felt incarcerated with the youth that I serviced but
leveraged that feeling to inform them that
accept the hardships that build your character.
Have you found Freedom in denouncing or ruminating
on adversity by asking, “Why Me?”
Truth is, we have the inherent ability to make
the choice to solve the problem,
evolve mentally in order to change our perception and reality.
Freedom is absent where complaining is present.
Instead of waiting, let's imminently execute the things that we strongly
desire by writing down our goals, creating a plan for
each one, and having faith in the process to manifest a better future.
Where’s Freedom in pondering and mourning
about the missing pieces of our lives?
Where's Freedom in misusing and abusing
material thing, substances, or people to fill a void?
Where is Freedom?
Freedom is not in the things that we are able to say
or in the places that we need money to go.
Choose the type of freedom that starts
where worry and misery ends.
Freedom starts when you question,
Freedom starts when you understand,
to have peace.
Freedom starts when you decide to think differently,
because it's through controlling the mind,
that sets you free.
